The 2022 BRICS Women’s Leadership Forum and Award Ceremony of BRICS Women Innovation Contest was held in Beijing on May 31. The event was organized by the Chinese Chapter of BRICS Women’s Business Alliance under the guidance of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) and China Chamber of International Commerce (CCOIC), with the support from the All-China Women’s Federation (ACWF).

Shen Yueyue, Vice-Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the 13th National People's Congress, and President of the All-China Women's Federation addressed the opening ceremony and presented awards. In her speech, she noted that the contest, initially proposed by President Xi Jinping, now serves as a crucial platform for women to be a part of BRICS business cooperation. In a world shrouded by profound changes and global pandemic, women from BRICS countries are encouraged to make more contributions to the friendship among BRICS peoples, economic growth and social development. Moreover, she called for a people-oriented manner in lifting women out of the aftermath of the COVID-19; for a development-first principle in supporting women in their entrepreneurship and innovation; for a mutual-learning attitude to strengthen cooperation as part of great efforts to build a community with a shared future for mankind.

Among the 449 candidates from BRICS countries, 15 women stood out and won the Award of Mulan and 5 were given the Special Contribution Award for their outstanding roles in the fight against the COVID-19.

Diplomats of BRICS countries to China, government officials, business delegates and award winners attended the event on site or online.(Source: BRICS Women’s Business Alliance)
